Rangers gear up for plenty of cheer at Cooloola and Inskip

Rangers and police will be patrolling at Cooloola and Inskip Point during the busy Christmas period to ensure everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation, Andrew McNamara said Christmas was one of the area’s busiest times.

“We are expecting big numbers at Inskip and along the beach at Teewah,” Mr McNamara said.

“Rangers and Police will be on patrol over the whole Christmas holiday period to make sure visitors are behaving safely and responsibly.

“Anti-social and dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Generally people do the right thing, and we ask them to consider others during this busy time.

“Road rules apply on all beaches, and drivers are asked to take extra care these holidays, especially around busy camping areas.”

Mr McNamara said that high visitor numbers in peak holiday times could have a serious impact on natural areas.

“Rules are put in place to reduce this impact, as well as to keep visitors safe,” he said.

”Please bring fuel stoves for cooking, as they are safer and less damaging to the environment.

“Where campfires are permitted, visitors should bring their own milled timber for firewood, and remember to extinguish all fires with water, not sand.

“Visitors should be responsible for their own rubbish and take it away with them,” he said.
“Rubbish should never be discarded in fires.

"Bring a portable toilet if camping in an area without facilities.

“These should be emptied into the waste disposal facilities provided, never down toilets or into the ocean.

“Campers must purchase their camping permits before they arrive, as capacity is limited. On-the-spot fines of $75 will apply for camping without a permit.

“Permits can be obtained by calling 13 13 04 (24 hours a day, seven days a week) or online at www.qld.gov.au/camping.

“Camping permits can also be obtained from the Visitor Information Centre at Rainbow Beach, the Great Sandy Visitor Information Centre at Moorindil Street, Tewantin and the EPA Customer Service Centre, 160 Ann St Brisbane.

“Camping permits are also available from some local Bill Express agents. For more details of those newsagencies, visit the EPA online.”
