$175,000 boost for transport services in Balonne, Warroo

Transport services in Balonne and Warroo shires will receive a much-needed boost with the Queensland Government providing more than $175,000 through its Blueprint for the Bush initiative.

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the funding for BlueCare would provide more flexible transport options for people in St George and Surat.

“Under the Blueprint’s Rural Service Access initiative, we will provide BlueCare in St George with $123,623 and BlueCare in Surat with $53,820,” Mr Pitt said.

“The funding will be used for projects that will provide a co-ordinated, flexible transport service for people in the community.

“The service will use existing transport resources where possible, and will employ a local co-ordinator.

“They will be able to respond to enquiries regarding transport, timetabling, charter information, carpooling, lease arrangements and subsidy schemes.”

Mr Pitt, who visited St George today as part of a two-day regional tour, said the Rural Service Access initiative was one of 170 initiatives that come under the Blueprint for the Bush program.

“Blueprint for the Bush is having a significant and positive impact on the way we deliver funding, programs and services to rural and regional communities,” he said.

“The program is already making a huge difference in the life of many Queenslanders.

“This will ultimately lead to improving the sustainability, liveability and prosperity of rural and regional Queensland.”
