Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Bulloo Shire gets funding for Thargomindah community bus project
Bulloo Shire Council will get $150,000 in Blueprint for the Bush funding from the Queensland Government to expand transport services between Thargomindah and Cunnamulla.
Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the money had been provided through the Rural Service Access initiative, a Blueprint for the Bush funding program.
Mr Pitt presented a cheque to Bulloo Shire representatives today as part of a two-day trip to central and south-west Queensland with Blueprint for the Bush executive partner, Agforce president Peter Kenny.
“This funding will help the Bulloo Shire Council to provide a co-ordinated bus service to link existing transport services between Thargomindah and Cunnamulla, and will provide the only public road transport service in the shire,” Mr Pitt said.
“It is particularly important that rural communities such as Thargomindah have adequate transport, and this extra bus service will help meet community needs, particularly for seniors, youth and people with a disability.”
Mr Pitt said the Government was committed to helping to develop vibrant and sustainable rural and regional communities through the Blueprint for the Bush program.
“The Blueprint for the Bush strategy lays the foundation for the future sustainability, liveability and prosperity of rural and regional Queensland,” he said.
“The program comprises 170 initiatives being delivered by 22 government agencies, with a range of initiatives to be delivered during the next few years.
“The Queensland Government understands the unique challenges that our regional and rural communities face and we are committed to giving them better support and services.
“That is why we have provided more than $18 million in grants to Bulloo Shire since 1998 to support a wide range of projects in the area.”
