Disability support services over Christmas & New Year: Minister

Queenslanders with a disability will continue to have access to support services 24 hours a day, seven days a week over Christmas and the New Year.

Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said this level of service was a necessity all-year round and the holiday period was no different.

“Most services are provided to individuals by non-government organisations and I am confident they will develop staff rosters for this period to ensure continuity of essential services to their clients,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“Because emergencies can arise, arrangements have also been made so people calling departmental regional offices and service centres will be redirected by Smart Services Queensland,” she said.

“While Christmas is a season of goodwill for many, some will find it to be a most stressful time when emotional budgets become overloaded and caring for a disabled child or adult can become near impossible to bear.”
