The Honourable Judy Spence
Tallebudgera hosts kids holiday adventure program: Spence
Almost 130 children and teenagers from the Gold Coast this week are participating in canoeing, surfing, beach games, high ropes, circus skills and kite building as part of a two-to-five day holiday adventure program being held at the Tallebudgera Active Recreation Centre on the Gold Coast.
Sport Minister Judy Spence said the holiday adventure program offers challenging and inspirational activities for children and young people in a safe and supervised environment.
“We realise that the school holidays are often a difficult time for some working parents so we are pleased to be able to offer this program, which gives kids the opportunity to try a wide range of activities and sports in a safe environment,” Ms Spence said.
“The Holiday Adventure Program is for children from 5 to 15 years and is the perfect way to keep children active, healthy, interested and safe during the school holidays.
“Participants will learn team building skills, develop their coordination skills, make new friends and hopefully have a lot of fun at the same time.
“This program plays an important role in helping more Queensland children get active and offers something for everyone regardless of their skill levels.
“The children are supervised by qualified instructors and they don’t need to be school sports champions to have a great time – anyone can enjoy the activities and make new friends.”
Ms Spence said the government is committed to improving the health and fitness of all Queenslanders and the program supports the Eat Well Be Active program, which was launched earlier this year.
“We want to encourage all Queenslanders to discover the lifelong benefits of sport and active recreation,” Ms Spence said.
“By having good access to sporting programs in their local communities, it makes it easier for children and young people to get involved in sport and active recreation.
“The Holiday Adventure Programs was launched in 2005, and since that time more than 3,500 Queenslanders have participated in the program.
“At less than $50 per day, the Holiday Adventure Program is a great way to help your children get active this summer.”
The Tallebudgera Active Recreation Centre will also hold the program on 7-11 January, 14-18 January and 21-25 January.
