Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence
Leslie Dam hosts kids holiday adventure program: Spence
Forty seven children and teenagers from the Warwick area, this week are participating in canoeing, low ropes, orienteering, bush skills, fishing, archery, circus skills and kite making, as part of a two-to-five day holiday adventure program being held at the Leslie Dam Active Recreation Centre.
Sport Minister Judy Spence said the holiday adventure program offers challenging and inspirational activities for children and young people in a safe and supervised environment.
“We realise that the school holidays are often a difficult time for some working parents so we are pleased to be able to offer this program, which gives kids the opportunity to try a wide range of activities and sports in a safe environment,” Ms Spence said.
“The Holiday Adventure Program is for children from 5 to 15 years and is the perfect way to keep children active, healthy, interested and safe during the school holidays.
“Participants will learn team building skills, develop their coordination skills, make new friends and hopefully have a lot of fun at the same time.
“This program plays an important role in helping more Queensland children get active and offers something for everyone regardless of their skill levels.
“The children are supervised by qualified instructors and they don’t need to be school sports champions to have a great time – anyone can enjoy the activities and make new friends.”
Ms Spence said the government is committed to improving the health and fitness of all Queenslanders and the program supports the Eat Well Be Active program, which was launched earlier this year.
“We want to encourage all Queenslanders to discover the lifelong benefits of sport and active recreation,” Ms Spence said.
“By having good access to sporting programs in their local communities, it makes it easier for children and young people to get involved in sport and active recreation.
“The Holiday Adventure Program was launched in 2005, and since that time has involved more than 3,500 Queenslanders.
“At less than $50 per day, the Holiday Adventure Program is a great way to help your children get active this summer.”
