Minister announces funding for Muttaburra community bus project

Transport services for the Muttaburra community will be improved, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Queensland Government through its Blueprint for the Bush.

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the funding was in addition to a $150,000 grant provided earlier this year through the government’s Rural Service Access initiative.

Mr Pitt made the announcement today as part of a two-day trip to central and south-west Queensland with Blueprint for the Bush executive partner, Agforce president Peter Kenny.

“This latest funding will help to expand the existing community transport service in the Muttaburra area to ensure it meets the needs of seniors, youth and people with a disability,” Mr Pitt said.

“The Rural Service Access initiative helps rural and regional communities to put essential local transport schemes in place and is designed to improve accessibility to local services for people with special needs.

“This $52,018 subsidy will allow the Muttaburra Community Development Association to provide two new buses to help connect local people with the services they need on a regular basis.”

Mr Pitt said the government was committed to helping to develop vibrant and sustainable rural and regional communities through the Blueprint for the Bush.

“The Blueprint for the Bush strategy lays the foundation for the future sustainability, liveability and prosperity of rural and regional Queensland,” he said.

“The program comprises 170 initiatives being delivered by 22 government agencies, with a range of initiatives to be delivered during the next few years.

“The Queensland Government understands the unique challenges that our regional and rural communities face and we are committed to giving them better support and services. That is why we have provided more than $14.7 million in grants to Aramac Shire since 1998 to support a wide range of projects in the area.”
