Premier
The Honourable Anna Bligh

Premier Anna Bligh today confirmed there is currently no recommendation to build a western bypass and no route for a western bypass had been chosen.

Ms Bligh said contrary to recent media reports Queensland Transport's Western Brisbane Transport Network Investigation will report next year on whether a western bypass is needed.

The investigation is considering a far western bypass option (Brisbane Valley) and a bypass option to the west of Mt Coot-tha in deciding the need for a bypass.

If a need for a western bypass of Brisbane was established, a further more detailed study to determine its location and timing would be required.

The requirement for this further study would only occur after the State Government has considered the findings of this investigation.

The further study would involve analysis of environmental, social and engineering issues along with extensive community consultation to determine if an acceptable alignment can be found.
