Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Get your taste-buds jumping this Christmas with goodies produced in the Maryborough – Bundaberg region
Maryborough and Bundaberg abound with top quality locally-produced food and wine - perfect for Christmas lunch or to show to visiting family and friends.
Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle is urging Queenslanders to support our local producers and choose Queensland-made food and wine this Christmas.
“Queenslanders need look no further than their own backyard to find everything they need to indulge their family and friends – and themselves – this Christmas,” Ms Boyle said.
“Queensland-produced food and wine is among the best in the world.
“Although Queensland has traditionally been known for its meat products and sugar, our value-added foods are rapidly gaining a worldwide reputation for quality.
“Food and wine tourism too is a real growth area for both domestic and international visitors, offering tremendous opportunities to boost the regions.
The Queensland Government helps local businesses to promote their products and grow their businesses through workshops, grants and by helping them to showcase their products at exhibitions.
The following businesses previously received Queensland Government assistance to develop their products:
o Family-owned Bundaberg Brewed Drinks prides itself on maintaining tradition and providing consumers with a truly authentic taste – by using real ginger, lemon and lime in their drinks. It runs the ‘True Brew Tour’ where people can learn all about the origins of ginger beer and how it’s made. People can also taste-test 14 different brewed drinks at the newest attraction, the Bundaberg Barrel.
o Gympie-based Nolan Meats produces premium meats including grain-finished yearling beef that is renowned for its consistently fresh, light and clean flavour.
o Bundaberg’s Goldmac Australian Macadamia nuts is one of Australia’s largest macadamia plantations
Ms Boyle, who is also responsible for Wine Industry development, said she encouraged people to try a local wine over the festive season.
“Waratah Vineyard is the first commercial vineyard in the Monto district, specialising in Semillon, Verdelho, Marsanne, Viognier, Shiraz, Merlot and Petit Verdot, and its cellar door is open to the public every day except Monday.
“Childers-based boutique winery Stanton Estate is a certified organic vineyard and offers up a specialised range of Marsanne, Verdelho, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. The cellar door is open seven days a week.”
