Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Get your taste-buds jumping this Christmas with goodies produced in Brisbane
Brisbane abounds with top quality locally-produced food and wine – perfect for Christmas lunch or to take a plate while visiting family and friends.
Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle is urging Queenslanders to support our local producers and choose Queensland-made food and wine this Christmas.
“Queenslanders need look no further than their own backyard to find everything they need to indulge their family and friends – and themselves – this Christmas,” Ms Boyle said.
“Queensland-produced food and wine is among the best in the world.
“Although Queensland has traditionally been known for its meat products and sugar, our value-added foods are rapidly gaining a worldwide reputation for quality.
“There is a range of gourmet goodies right on Brisbane’s doorstep.”
The Queensland Government helps local businesses to promote their products and grow their businesses through workshops, grants and by helping them to showcase their products at exhibitions.
The following businesses were among nine gourmet food companies represented at the Queensland Government stand at this year’s Good Food and Wine Show in Brisbane:
o Smokin’ Stu’s, at Chermside, have developed a range of mouth-watering relishes and sauces made from the finest and freshest Queensland and Australian produce. The company is led by award-winning chef Stuart Morrison who has 20 years experience in the kitchens of England and Australia. His range of smoked goodies, which includes a sweet chilli sauce with kaffir lime leaf and lemongrass and a smoked tomato relish, are all preservative-free.
o Indooroopilly’s Suzanne Quintner had spent seven years introducing Queenslanders to the culinary delights of north African cuisine through her range of dips, sauces, condiments and aioli.
o Hemmant-based Brubeck’s Boutique Foods has developed a new range of gourmet pizzas in addition to its extensive range of dips and ready-made meals.
o Capalaba’s Celebrity Cakes has been producing specialty cakes, Christmas houses and sleighs, and even gingerbread biscuits for more than 35 years. The company has just recently made their gingerbread biscuits, which are currently sold in bakeries and IGAs nationally, available for purchase directly from the manufacturer – at factory prices.
o Boutique cheese manufacturer Olympus Cheese at Coorparoo produces a award-winning haloumi, fetta and ricotta cheeses. Just recently the company took away a swag of awards at the 2007 Dairy Industry Association of Australia Awards, including silver for its Haloumi, Fetta, Sweet Chilli Fetta and Ricotta cheeses. Olympus Cheese distributes its products through a variety of food service distributors, delis, restaurants, independent supermarkets and pasta manufacturers.
