The Honourable Anna Bligh
High profile Qlders join Premier in Christmas road safety plea
Premier Anna Bligh launched a state-wide radio campaign today with a personal plea to drivers to stay safe on the roads and keep Queensland families together this Christmas.
Ms Bligh is joined by high-profile Queensland parents in the campaign: Samantha Riley (former Olympic swimmer), Gina Jeffreys (country music recording artist), Alistair Lynch (former Brisbane Lions’ star), Kay McGrath (7 News), Heather Foorde (9 News) and Hetty Johnson (Executive Director of Bravehearts).
“As a mother, Christmas is a special time of year for me and is about spending time with my family and the people I love,” Ms Bligh said.
“But as we’re all too aware, this year has been the worst in years for deaths on Queensland roads, and there are hundreds of families out there who will be without a loved one this Christmas.
“And tragically, the odds are that more Queensland parents will get the horrible news that their child has been killed or injured on the roads in coming weeks.
“As Premier and as a mother, I urge all Queenslanders to please: stay safe on the roads this Christmas.
“Slow down, buckle up, don’t drink or drug drive, and don’t drive tired.
“The festive season is always a busy time of year on our roads but I plead with drivers – young and old – to take care and stay safe.
“Keep Queensland families together this Christmas.”
The radio campaign will begin today and run until Christmas Eve.
