BABY CAPSULE SERVICE TO STAY: PREMIER
The Queensland Ambulance Service will continue to deliver its baby capsule hire program, which provides an essential service across the state, Premier Anna Bligh said today.
The QAS had recently fitted its 100,000th baby capsule, with the service responding to increasing demand in this crucial area of community safety.
“It’s money well spent. This is an important service for young children and their parents across the state. It is critical that children are restrained correctly to prevent serious injury,” she said.
“Research has indicated that up to 70% of child restraints are installed incorrectly, leaving children vulnerable to serious injury if they are involved in an accident.
”This service offers peace of mind for parents across Queensland.”
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said that last financial year, the QAS fitted 12,487 capsules, an increase of 11% over the previous 12 months.
“The current cost of a six-month baby capsule hire is $65, which includes all accessories required to fit the capsules,” Mr Roberts said.
“Any parent can make a request to the QAS for a reduction of fees if experiencing genuine financial hardship and I urge them to do so.”
