Queensland firefighters return from South Australia

Thirteen Queensland firefighters returned home yesterday (Saturday, 15 December) after a five-day deployment to South Australia.

Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) officers travelled to South Australia on Monday following a request from the Country Fire Service (CFS) in South Australia.

"They have assisted colleagues in South Australia, as well as from Victoria and NSW," Mr Roberts said.

"There is a proud history of firefighters from interstate assisting each other."

The QFRS officers were deployed to Kangaroo Island. The CFS confirmed on Friday night all four fires on Kangaroo Island were contained having burnt a total of nearly 90,000 hectares.

The group of Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) incident management personnel were drawn from across the State, including Maryborough, Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Gympie, Roma, around Cairns and the Gold Coast.
