Minister for Health
The Honourable Stephen Robertson
Construction of Yeppoon’s new $22 million hospital will get underway in the New Year following the closure of tenders this week, Health Minister Stephen Robertson and Member for Keppel Paul Hoolihan said today.
Mr Robertson said the new Yeppoon Hospital was being developed on the corner of Hoskyn Drive and Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road, Yeppoon.
“The tenders will be assessed over the coming weeks and a successful contractor appointed in January,” he said.
“Preparatory earthworks have been underway since October which will enable construction to proceed on time.
“Construction is expected to be completed by early 2009.”
Mr Hoolihan said the new Yeppoon Hospital would combine acute health services with a range of community services all on the one site.
“The new facility will accommodate an emergency department, community health care, 22 hospital beds, four oral health chairs and a private practice clinic,” he said.
“It will also deliver mental health and specialised rehabilitation services.
“Importantly, it will strengthen the links with outreach services based in Rockhampton, including oral health and various allied health services.”
Mr Hoolihan said the hospital would also be able to expand services to meet anticipated growth in demand.
“We are building a health service to accommodate not only the current but also future health needs of the growing Capricorn Coast community,” he said.
“It will also provide opportunities for private health facilities to co-locate ensuring a wide range of services are provided in the local community including enhanced x-ray facilities.”
