The Honourable Judy Spence
Ravenshoe Police Station One Step Closer: Spence
Ravenshoe residents are one step closer to receiving a new police station which will provide better resources and increased policing services to the community.
Police Minister Judy Spence said the prefabricated building has now been ordered and is set for delivery in the first half of next year.
“The delivery of this new station will be a great boost for policing in Ravenshoe,” Ms Spence said.
“Police currently share premises in the old courthouse building with other government agencies and there are no storage or interview rooms.
“This project will provide police with the infrastructure they need to house the area’s growing police numbers, so our officers can do their job of protecting the community.”
Ms Spence said the State Government is providing almost $900,000 for the project, to establish the new police station on a site at the corner of Kennedy Highway and Carrick Street, Ravenshoe.
“The new building will include a foyer, reception counter, interview room, and dayroom with a capacity for up to six officers over two shifts,” Ms Spence said.
“In addition, there will be a holding cell, charge counter, store room, meal rooms, and amenities.
“The refurbishment will also include new car parking areas, landscaping and a ramp for people with disabilities.
“These prefabricated buildings are already being used successfully as police stations at Sherwood, Tin Can Bay, Coolum, Oakey, Halifax, Eagleby, Hopevale, Ilfracombe and Nambour.
“I have no doubt the people of Ravenshoe will welcome this new infrastructure, which will ensure that police are better equipped to do their job of combating crime in the community.”
Ms Spence said the new station is part of the State Government’s $260 million commitment to create six new police divisions and build more than 20 new police stations and facilities across the state over four years.
“As this government continues to increase police numbers around the state, it is essential we provide the infrastructure to match,” Ms Spence said.
“This is about ensuring Queensland police have the resources and support they need, to work with the community in fighting crime.”
