The Honourable Rod Welford

Senior certificates mailed to Year 12 students this week

The anxious wait for results is nearly over for graduating Year 12 students with final preparations underway for the mail-out of Senior Certificates on Friday (14 December).

Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said 40,896 Senior Certificates would be issued to students this year, in what would be an historic end to the Senior Certificate.

“From 2008, Queensland high school students will receive the new Queensland Certificate of Education, which recognises a broader range of learning, including school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, university subjects and community and sporting programs,” Mr Welford said.

“This year’s graduating class of Year 12s are the last to receive Senior Certificates.

“About 26,200 students will also receive a Tertiary Entrance Statement containing their Overall Position (OP) and Field Positions (FPs).

“Of these students, 695 will receive an OP1 or equivalent for international students, and 18,735 will receive an OP of 1-15.

“More than 22,800 students have completed some form of vocational education and training, which will be recorded on their Senior Certificate.

“And 538 students will receive a Certificate of Post-Compulsory School Education, which recognises the achievements of students with learning disabilities.”

Mr Welford said students should carefully consider their post-school options once they knew their Year 12 results.

“In addition to university, there are many exciting and rewarding opportunities available including TAFE certificate and diploma courses, apprenticeships and traineeships, and work,” he said.

“Students should also make use of the expert careers and studies advice available from the QSA, the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre, tertiary institutions, counsellors, parents and other networks.”

Students who cannot wait for their results to arrive by mail next Monday (17 December) can access their results two days earlier by registering for the QSA’s Smart OP service. Smart OP enables students to get their OP and FPs online or by SMS from 9am on Saturday 15 December.

Students have until 5pm tomorrow (13 December) to register for Smart OP at http://smartop.qsa.qld.edu.au

Students wishing to query their OP or who haven’t received their Senior Certificate can call the QSA information hotline on 1800 772 457 (Brisbane or mobile callers phone 3864 0299). The hotline will be open from Monday 17 December to Thursday 20 December during business hours.
