Shine Announces Details of Review
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Kerry Shine today said a review of sentences handed to sexual offenders in Cape York communities will look at 64 decisions handed down over the last two years.
“The Director of Public Prosecutions has agreed to conduct this review of decisions and will provide details of the sentences handed down, what sentence the Crown Prosecutor asked for and which Judge was involved in the case,” Mr Shine said.
“The review will look at 37 matters heard so far this year, including 22 that were heard during Cape Circuit sittings, and 27 matters heard in 2006, including 10 heard during Cape Circuit sittings.
“The results of the review will be available by mid-January,” Mr Shine said.
