Minister for Mines and Energy
The Honourable Geoff Wilson

Community groups share in more than $267,000 funding pool

Community groups in Ipswich City, Beaudesert, Gatton and Laidley Shires have received a boost in funding following the announcement of successful recipients of Powerlink community grants.

Mines and Energy Minister Geoff Wilson said thirty community groups would share in a $267,000 funding pool.

“There is a range of community projects in the pipeline and I congratulate the groups for coming forward with their winning ideas,” Mr Wilson said.

Member for Ipswich West, Wayne Wendt represented the Minister at today’s community event.

Powerlink Queensland’s Middle Ridge to Greenbank Community Benefits Program works with local community groups to deliver facilities and services to community’s near their transmission lines.

Mr Wendt said the groups would share in the funding pool to undertake worthwhile community projects.

“Some of the projects include wheelchair access at a community hall, buying a mower for a recreation reserve, and a revegetation program at a local school,” Mr Wendt said.

Powerlink Chief Executive, Gordon Jardine said the Middle Ridge to Greenbank transmission line would support the booming South East Queensland region and help to underpin economic growth.

“The program is separate, and in addition to the compensation paid to property owners directly affected by the transmission line project,” Mr Jardine said.

Mr Jardine said construction of the Middle Ridge to Greenbank transmission line was expected to be completed early next year.
