King of Waltz to transform Suncorp Stadium into Romantic Vienna
The versatility of Suncorp Stadium will again be on show next year when the King of Waltz, Andre Rieu brings his “Romantic Vienna Night” extravaganza to Queensland.
Sports Minister, Judy Spence today approved the staging of the Andre Rieu performance at the Stadium on Wednesday 3 December 2008.
The concert will be the second of the three permitted at the Stadium in 2008, with 'The Police' already scheduled to play there on January 22.
“This is going to be one of the great concert events of 2008 – and I am delighted we will be hosting Andre Rieu in Queensland,” Ms Spence said.
“Andre Rieu is internationally acclaimed for his extravagant shows and stellar performances, and I have no doubt he will truly dazzle the audience at Suncorp Stadium.”
Andre Rieu Productions said they were thrilled Brisbane had now been confirmed as part of the Australian tour next year.
“The performance promises something not seen in this country to date,” a tour spokesperson said.
“Suncorp Stadium will be transformed into a replica of the Castle of Schonbrunn, complete with ballrooms, golden coaches, ice rinks, fountains and hundreds of dancers, musicians and artists.
“Andre Rieu’s unique and exuberant style makes his shows one of the most talked about in the world of popular classics.
“Rieu’s popularity in Australia is growing at record proportions and has surpassed more than half a million CD and DVD sales this year. Two of these DVD’s have sold platinum four times over.”
Ms Spence said that, as with previous concerts, strict noise levels on the night will be enforced and the 10.30pm finishing time will be adhered to.
“The staging of this massive production reinforces this Government’s decision to redevelop Queensland’s home of football into a versatile world class sport and entertainment venue,” Ms Spence said.
“There are few, if any other venues capable of staging a performance of this magnitude, and I am pleased Queenslanders will have the opportunity to see Andre Rieu in concert, because of this Government’s foresight in redeveloping Suncorp Stadium.”
Tickets go on sale for the Brisbane performance through Ticketek on Monday 17 December.
