The Honourable Anna Bligh
Review recommends new role for Goprint
A review has recommended that the State Government restructure Goprint into a body that only supports the work of Parliament and doesn’t compete with private printers for other Government work.
Premier Anna Bligh and Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten said the Service Delivery and Perfomance Commission report found that Goprint had lost $37million since the 99/00 financial year and identified cost savings of at least $17 million a year by having the private sector compete for State Government contracts.
The review recommended a new Government Printing Office retain responsibility for Parliament-related publications such as Hansard and an expert Print Management Unit be established to ensure government agencies get the most competitive quotes from private printers in a market conservatively estimated to be worth $70 million year.
Goprint, which has competed with the private sector since 1991, at present produces about $10 million of Government work a year.
Ms Bligh said the Government now would consult with unions and other stakeholders before making a decision, but stressed there would be no forced redundancies if the recommendations of the review were accepted.
The SDPC’s report was tabled in Parliament today.
