Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology
The Honourable Robert Schwarten
NEW ROOF FOR QUILPIE STATE SCHOOL’S COVERED PLAY AREA
Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten today announced close to $7,000 in funding to replace roofing iron and undertake associated works on the covered play area at Quilpie State School.
Mr Schwarten said the funding – from the Department of Public Works’ emergency maintenance fund – was great news for the school community.
“This funding will allow for the existing roofing to be removed and replaced with new Colourbond corrugated roofing iron,” Mr Schwarten said.
“The existing fascias will also be removed and replaced, and new guttering will be installed.
“This covered play area is an important asset to the school, especially now as the weather starts warming up, so I am glad this funding is available to get this work completed.”
Mr Schwarten said the work would be completed as soon as possible with every effort being made to minimise disruption to classes.
“The emergency maintenance fund was developed to complement existing maintenance programs and, specifically, to undertake projects that arise in the course of the year or that are unable to be completed by the school because of the magnitude of the cost,” he said.
Mr Schwarten said QBuild – the State Government’s construction and maintenance division – would manage the project.
“This funding demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to properly maintaining public infrastructure for the benefit of the community,” Mr Schwarten said.
