Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology
The Honourable Robert Schwarten
BITUMEN AREA TO BE RESURFACED AT COOROY STATE SCHOOL
Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten today announced more than $18,000 in funding to resurface a 580 square metre bitumen surface at Cooroy State School.
Mr Schwarten said the bitumen area, on the northern side of the school’s administration block, was used by the students as a play area.
“Over time, the existing bitumen surface has started to break up and this has created a health and safety hazard,” Mr Schwarten said.
“This funding – from the Department of Public Works’ emergency maintenance fund – will allow for the area to be resurfaced.”
The work will be completed as soon as possible with every effort being made to minimise disruption to classes.
Mr Schwarten said the emergency maintenance fund was developed to complement existing maintenance programs and specifically to undertake projects that arose in the course of the year or that were unable to be completed by the school because of the magnitude of the cost.
“QBuild – the State Government’s construction and maintenance division – will manage the project,” he said.
“This funding demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to properly maintaining public infrastructure for the benefit of the community.”
