Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation
The Honourable Andrew McNamara
Christmas campers at Lake Tinaroo have been urged to book ahead for the Christmas holiday period.
Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation Minister, Andrew McNamara, said that camping availability at Danbulla State Forest for the Christmas–New Year holidays was filling fast and campers need to pre-book for all camp sites.
“Danbulla State Forest is a very popular Christmas camping destination, especially at Fong On Bay and Downfall Creek.
“Rangers and police will be patrolling in greater numbers during the very busy Christmas–New Year period to ensure a safe and pleasant camping experience for all park visitors,” Mr McNamara said.
Parks and Wildlife Senior Ranger, Mike Joyce, said in previous years overcrowding of the camping areas in the Danbulla State Forest had been compounded by inappropriate behaviour.
“In the past some campers caused damage to the park and its facilities through antisocial behaviour that resulted in intervention by rangers and police,” Mr Joyce said.
“If camping areas reach capacity Parks and Wildlife will be restricting further visitors from entering the park to ensure visitor safety and protect the environment.
“To help manage camping during this busy time, all camping permits for the Danbulla State Forest must be pre-booked before arrival.
“There are some spaces remaining but from the number of bookings so far, we expect all camping areas to be fully booked.”
Camping permits can be obtained for all QPWS managed camping at Danbulla State Forest by visiting www.qld.gov.au\camping or by phoning 131304.
