Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Wanted: leaders to champion disability reform in Queensland
An international search begins this weekend for a team to lead some of the biggest reforms to disability services in Queensland.
Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said applications were now open for key director and other leadership positions at the new Centre of Excellence for Behaviour Support and the Specialist Response Service.
“This weekend we kick-start a global search to find the world’s best to lead Queensland’s new Centre of Excellence,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“The centre is part of the Queensland Government’s $113 million commitment to the reform of disability services for people with an intellectual or cognitive disability and challenging behaviours.”
Ms Nelson-Carr said positions will be advertised in local, national and international press and online media from tomorrow.
Key positions available include:
• Director of Policy Research;
• Director of Research in Behaviour Support, and;
• Director of Learning and Development.
Disability Services Queensland is also recruiting for Individual Response Leaders and Principal Clinicians to be based in locations across the state.
Earlier this year, the Queensland Government committed $113 million over four years to the Positive Futures initiative to implement recommendations by the Honourable Bill Carter QC in his report, Challenging Behaviours and Disability – A Targeted Response.
“I am delighted with the progress of the Centre of Excellence and the Specialist Response Service – two cornerstones of the Positive Futures initiative – and am equally pleased to hear that a strong team is being assembled to lead them,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“These leadership appointments will not only make a real difference in the lives of people with a disability, they will also ensure Queensland’s place at the cutting edge of best practice in disability and mental health services.”
