Earthworks for Highfields fire station start next week
Earthworks for the new fire station at Highfields, north of Toowoomba, are due to start next week, Attorney-General and Member for Toowoomba North Kerry Shine said.
Mr Shine said the design and construction of the $860,000 fire station at Highfields was being managed by Toowoomba-based G & K Lawson Construction Pty Ltd.
"The station will be built opposite the Highfields Cultural Centre at the corner of O’Brien Road and Balmoral Street," Mr Shine said.
"The pre-fabrication work on the station buildings is underway and the station is due to completed in March next year."
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said the QFRS had originally planned to construct the fire station at Kratzke Road, adjoining the new $1.1 million ambulance station opened in August this year.
"The new site was secured with the support of the Crows Nest Shire Council," Mr Roberts said.
"Highfields is a fast-growing community and the establishment of new ambulance and fire stations are important infrastructure for the community’s continued growth."
Mr Roberts said the strong representations from Mr Shine had ensured the Government made and honoured its commitment to build new fire and ambulance stations at Highfields.
