Main Roads planting for growth on the Gold Coast
Main Roads on the Gold Coast is planting, as well as planning, for future growth as part of a joint community greening initiative.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said Main Roads had joined forces with Gold Coast City Council to host a special tree planting ceremony at Broadbeach Waters PCYC on Saturday, 1 December.
"Main Roads staff will be on hand to help 'sow the seeds' for an ecologically sustainable future," Mr Pitt said.
"In conjunction with the council, Greening Australia and the Gold Coast Catchment Group, Main Roads will plant 1100 native trees and grasses.
"Residents are encouraged to come along, join in and get their hands dirty, as we work towards improving the look of the local landscape and making a positive impact on the environment.
"Main Roads will be supplying the trees for planting while Gold Coast City Council will provide transport trucks and water."
The planting event will take place at the corner of Bermuda and Monaco streets from 10.30am and the PCYC will supply a barbecue meal for all participants.
Planters are urged to wear gloves and closed-in-shoes and are reminded to "slip, slop, slap" and bring plenty of drinking water.
Residents who want to get involved or who have queries regarding the event can contact Byron Reynolds of Greening Australia (Queensland) on 0418 762 300.
