HACC funding reports wrong: Minister

Minister for Disability Services Lindy Nelson-Carr said she was concerned there were incorrect reports circulating about Home and Community Care (HACC) funding in the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture and Bribie Island regions.

“The joint Commonwealth and State-funded HACC program has and always has been for local transport and support services for the frail aged, younger people with a disability and their carers so they can stay in their community,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“This guideline has been in place since 1998.

“I can say the HACC program has acknowledged there are service providers who have been operating outside of the national guidelines and taken residents to specialist medical appointments outside of their communities.

“Under no circumstances are funding or services going to be cut or clients left high and dry.

“The HACC program is working with service providers to ensure residents’ needs are met.

“Disability Services Queensland is speaking directly to providers to explain this.

“The HACC program is part of a wider supported community transport system that includes Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Transport, local government and private sector transport providers.

“I am sorry there has been confusion. Service providers who have questions should call 5433 8308.”
