Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Seven organisations share in $400,000 to build stronger communities
Seven regional organisations will be helping to build stronger communities thanks to nearly $400,000 in Building Rural Links funding from the Queensland Government.
Minister for Communities Lindy Nelson-Carr said this funding program assisted community organisations with building and developing stronger partnerships and to ultimately deliver quality services to their clients.
”The Building Rural Links funding program encourages organisations to work together to increase their ability to deliver quality services,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“The funding program forms part of the Strengthening Rural Non-Government Organisation initiative.
“This initiative importantly recognises the vital role that non-government services play in delivering a range of community support services,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
The following organisations will receive funding as part of the Building Rural Links initiative:
• $75,000 Bowen Community Council Inc
• $17,500 Clermont Community Housing and Other Services
• $74,705 Playgroup Association of Queensland Inc Mount Isa
• $75,000 Community Development Services Inc, Stanthorpe
• $17,475 Queensland Police-Citizens Youth Welfare Association, Cairns
• $68,302 Theodore Early Childhood Centre Association Inc, Banana
• $65,000 Speak Out Limited, Blackall .
The Mount Isa’s Playgroup Association of Queensland will employ an early years worker to provide support for families with young children by linking them with existing early intervention services.
The Clermont Community Housing and a range of other service providers including Clermont Multipurpose Health Service and the Domestic Violence Service of Central Queensland will be working with Rio Tinto to develop ways of providing community services to the rapidly growing mining areas in the Clermont region.
Ms Nelson-Carr said these are fine examples of rural organisations working together to improve the lives of rural families.
“As part of the Strengthening Rural Non-Government Organisations strategy an approach is taken to enhance rural organisations rather than dwelling on problems and deficiencies.
“By assisting non-government organisations to overcome challenges by using their knowledge of local needs and their ability to harness local resources means they can continue their essential work.”
The Strengthening Rural Non-Government Organisations funding program is part of the Queensland Government’s Blueprint for the Bush.
