Premier Bligh meets with Prime Minister Elect

The election of Kevin Rudd as Prime Minister will herald a new era of cooperative federalism in Australia, Premier Anna Bligh, said today.

Ms Bligh’s comments followed a meeting with the Prime Minister elect at his Brisbane home this morning.

“Kevin has his sleeves rolled up and is raring to go,” Ms Bligh said.

“We discussed a range of issues.

“I stressed the need for a more cooperative approach to Commonwealth/State relations.

“I told him health care is our number one priority followed closely by water, education, transport and climate change.

“The meeting this morning was the beginning of the end of the blame game.”’

Ms Bligh said she was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with Mr Rudd so soon following his victory last night.

“I wanted to congratulate Kevin but I also wanted to put forward our State’s position on a number of issues,” Ms Bligh said.

“He listened and I am confident Queensland will have a very strong advocate in Canberra.”
