Toowoomba business wins national export honour
Minister for Transport, Trade Employment and Industrial Relations, John Mickel, has congratulated a Toowoomba-based company for winning a top honour at the prestigious 2007 Australian Export Awards.
Last night in Brisbane, Russell Mineral Equipment was named one of Australia’s top exporters, winning the Regional Exporter of the Year Award.
“The company has done Queensland and the nation proud,’’ Mr Mickel said.
The specialist mining technology company has built a global reputation for supplying unique, custom-made mineral grinding and mill relining processing technologies.
RME equipment is now exported to most world mining markets including Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Tanzania, Ghana, Canada, USA, Argentina and Chile.
Mr Mickel said there were quite a number of regional companies that exemplified the Queensland manufacturing sector’s capacity to deliver quality products to the global industry.
“RME, winner of the 2007 Queensland Regional Exporter of the Year award, has grown 400 per cent in the past four years, proving that being a regional business is no barrier to global success.’
"Queensland companies are renowned for being innovative and proactive in driving the nation’s exports."
Mr Mickel said RME was a great role model for Queensland’s business community and would help to pave the way for the Smart State’s future export success.
"Exports mean stronger economic growth and more employment, he said.
“Exports are not only one of the best ways to create more jobs for Queenslanders, but a way to create good jobs because it takes a highly skilled and innovative workforce to make internationally competitive products,’’ Mr Mickel said.
The Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards winners and finalists were announced on Thursday, 25 October. Details are available at www.export.qld.gov.au
