Premier Announces New Director-General for Queensland Health
Premier Anna Bligh announced today that the Director-General of Queensland Health, Uschi Schreiber, would be leaving her position to pursue new career opportunities.
Ms Bligh said Professor Andrew Wilson, Executive Director of Policy Planning and Resourcing in Queensland Health will be acting Director-General while the position is advertised.
She said Ms Schreiber would take leave from December 11th and her resignation would be effective from February 29th, 2008.
“During 15 years in the Queensland public service, Uschi has managed a wide range of policy reforms and initiatives for the Queensland Government, in both human services and economic development,” Ms Bligh said.
“Since 2005 she has led the reforms in Queensland Health which have seen the ongoing implementation of the Government’s Health Action Plan.”
Ms Schreiber is moving to Sydney to take up a partnership offered to her by Ernst and Young earlier this month.
She will be Leader of the New South Wales Government practice and Chair of the Oceania Area Health practice for Ernst and Young.
“Uschi tendered her resignation to me earlier this week and she has now informed Queensland Health staff,” Ms Bligh said.
“While further improvements need to be made, the Queensland health system and Queensland Health as an organisation have vastly improved under Uschi’s leadership.
“However, this is now an opportunity for renewal and we will undertake a national and international search to find the best candidate to help us build a better health system in Queensland.”
