Premier
The Honourable Anna Bligh
Program key ingredient in regional events success: Bligh
Round 14 of the highly successful Queensland Events Regional Development Program (QERDP) is now open for applications, Premier Anna Bligh today advised, congratulating events which have used the program to establish themselves as major tourism drivers for their regions.
Applications for Round 14 of the program – valid for projects from July 1, 2008 up to and including December 31, 2009 – close on February 1, 2008.
“The highly successful program has already distributed more than $9.7 million to more than 460 different regional events since it began in 2001 – that’s an average of $21,000 for each event,” Ms Bligh said.
“The program is state-wide initiative created by the State Government that specifically invests in events located outside the Brisbane metropolitan area. We are committed to enhancing existing events in regional Queensland, as well as assisting in the establishment of new events,” he said.
“Since 2001, QERDP has supported hundreds of regional events, from music, fishing and food festivals, to camel races, kite surfing and cultural celebrations.”
“As diverse as these events are, they share a common outcome – the delivery of economic and social benefits to the community in which they are held.”
For more information and advice on the QERDP application process, applicants are encouraged to contact the funding program secretariat in Townsville on 1300 881 255 or visit www.queenslandevents.com.au
