Dalrymple Shire receives $1 million in disaster relief funding

Dalrymple Shire Council will receive more than $1.19 million towards the cost of repairing local roads damaged by flooding in early 2007.

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the funding was provided for restoration of the shire’s damaged road network.

“In smaller communities, road systems are a community lifeline, so it is important that these repairs are done as soon as possible after natural disasters so residents can go about their daily lives,” Mr Pitt said.

Mr Pitt said it was important that ratepayers were not left with the repair bill for damaged council assets following natural disasters.

“These repair costs were beyond council’s capabilities, which is why the Queensland and Commonwealth governments have contributed additional funding,” he said.

“Dalrymple Shire Council has also contributed $50,000 towards the repair works.”

The funding has been provided under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements program, a joint state and Commonwealth government initiative.
