Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Bundaberg receives tourism research grant
Bundaberg will receive a special grant of $79,200 to help roll out a hinterland development plan for the region, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle announced today.
“These funds will help Bundaberg Region Tourism to deliver the Hinterland Engagement Strategy,” Ms Boyle said.
“Its focus will be on building and maintaining communication and networks with local governments, businesses and tourism stakeholders to encourage further tourism initiatives in the region.
“The Queensland Government is working hard through Tourism Queensland and Bundaberg Region Tourism to grow tourism throughout the region.
“It is encouraging to see the nights spent by international tourists in the Bundaberg region increased by 25 per cent over the past year.
“This strategy will help to continue building on the strong growth of the region.”
Ms Boyle said the grant for Bundaberg Region Tourism was part of a $1 million funding boost to assist regional tourism organisations to implement the Bligh Government’s ten-year, $48 million Queensland Tourism Strategy.
“The Queensland Tourism Strategy is a key election promise to secure the economic, environmental and social sustainability of the State’s tourism industry,” she said.
“I congratulate Bundaberg Region Tourism on preparing a funding submission to help build tourism opportunities in the region.”
