SCHOOL’S OUT FOR 43,000 YEAR 12s
School will be only not out for summer but forever for some 43,000 graduating Year 12s in Queensland tomorrow (Friday 16 November).
Acting Education and Training Minister Margaret Keech praised the class of 2007, saying they had reached a milestone in their journey of lifelong learning.
“I wish all the students good luck and congratulate them on their achievements,” Mrs Keech said.
“By completing high school, graduates have taken a significant step towards their future careers. After celebrating the end of their schooldays, they soon will find jobs or start training or tertiary study.”
Mrs Keech said the next few weeks would be both exciting and anxious for about 26,000 state and more than 17,000 non-state school graduating seniors waiting for their results.
“The Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) will mail out the Student Education Profile, which includes the Senior Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Statement, to most students on Friday, 14 December,” she said.
School leavers can also register for the QSA’s Smart OP service at www.smartop.qsa.qld.edu.au between now and 5pm on 13 December.
Through Smart OP, which will be available from 9am on 15 December to 5pm on 7 January 2008, students can receive their OP (Overall Position) and Field Positions (FPs) by internet or SMS at least two days before being notified in the mail around 17 December.
The QSA provides OPs only to individual students, their school principal and the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).
Students have until Wednesday, 2 January to lodge tertiary preference changes with QTAC.
From 1am on 10 January students can access their tertiary offers via the QTAC website at www.qtac.edu.au.
Tertiary offers will be published in The Courier-Mail and selected regional newspapers on Friday, 11 January and posted to students on the same day. For more information, phone the QSA on 3864 0299 or QTAC on 3858 1222.
