Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Toowoomba and Golden West will receive a special funding grant of $78 000 to deliver two key local tourism development initiatives, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle announced today.
Member for Toowoomba North Kerry Shine welcomed the funding.
“The funds will help the Toowoomba and Golden West Regional Tourist Association put together a survey on visitor’s perceptions of the region and their level of satisfaction,” Mr Shine said.
“It will also be used to run workshops for local tourism operators to up-skill them in the use of the internet as a marketing and e-commerce tool,” he said.
“This is really important because the latest research shows that almost one in five visitors to Queensland gained information about their trip via the internet in the past year.
Mr Shine said Toowoomba and the Golden West hosted more than 1 million tourists over the past year and the Bligh Government was dedicated to working with local industry to grow this number.
Ms Boyle said the grant was part of a $1 million funding boost to assist regional tourism organisations to implement the Bligh Government’s ten-year, $48 million Queensland Tourism Strategy.
“The Queensland Tourism Strategy is a key election promise to secure the economic, environmental and social sustainability of the State’s tourism industry,” Ms Boyle said.
“I congratulate the Toowoomba and Golden West Regional Tourist Association on preparing a funding submission dedicated to developing local tourism product,” she said.
