SES volunteers provide 7 years of help in 12 months
State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers in Queensland provided the equivalent of seven years of assistance over 12 months.
Speaking at “Wear Orange to Work Day” as part of SES Week today, Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said SES volunteers provided 64,932 hours of operation in 2006-07.
“SES volunteers make a valuable contribution to our community,” Mr Roberts said.
“SES Week and ‘Wear Orange to Work Day’ are excellent opportunities for the community to thank these volunteers for the dedication.”
Mr Roberts said the total hours of SES volunteers were greater in 2005-06 with 93,210 hours.
“Almost one-third of total hours worked by the SES in 2005-6 were as part of the response to Cyclone Larry," Mr Roberts said.
“Since July this year, SES volunteers have worked 20,000 hours.”
Mr Roberts said there were 6430 members of SES across the State. Of that number, 4574 are regarded as active members and another 1856 are regarded as reserve members.
People wishing to join SES can contact 1300 369 003 for further information.
People who wish to contact SES for assistance should call 132 500.
