Gold Coast rolls out red carpet for major film industry events
Local filmmakers, network chiefs and international industry heavyweights will gather on the Gold Coast this week for three major events on Australia’s film and television calendar.
Acting Arts Minister Margaret Keech said it was an honour for Queensland to host the 22nd annual Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) conference starting tomorrow (13 November), IF (Inside Film) Awards and the inaugural Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
“Queensland is a thriving industry hub for film and television practitioners and hosting these events cements our place on the international stage,” Ms Keech said.
“I wish everyone attending this week’s film and television industry bonanza on the Gold Coast an enjoyable and productive experience.
“The SPAA conference, Australia’s major screen industry forum, offers delegates keynote presentations, panel discussions, screenings, workshops and networking opportunities.
“The Pacific Film and Television Commission (PFTC) has been a major sponsor of the conference for four years as part of its strategic approach to develop, promote and attract production activity to Queensland.
“It is an exciting time for the film and television industry – production levels in the Smart State are soaring, spearheaded by local creative talent and supported by Queensland Government schemes and incentives programs.”
Ms Keech said this year’s SPAA conference would focus on the opportunities for production expansion into the burgeoning Asia Pacific markets.
“The inaugural Asia Pacific Screen Awards will be a celebratory start to proceedings on Tuesday 13 November,” she said.
"The awards, an initiative of the State Government through Queensland Events Corporation, in association with UNESCO, CNN International and the International Federation of Film Producers, recognise cinema as a key means of conserving and promoting different cultures.
“As this year’s host, Queensland warmly welcomes all nominees and guests from 71 countries, ranging from Turkey to Samoa and Russia to New Zealand.”
The star-studded IF Awards, which celebrate excellence in Australia’s film industry and encourage new talent, will be held on 16 November at the Crowne Plaza Royal Pines Resort.
