Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Lower-level landing and limited vehicle access approved for Mourilyan jetty
Queensland Transport will install a temporary replacement lower-level landing and stairs at Mourilyan Harbour jetty during the week starting December 3, weather permitting.
Minister for Transport John Mickel said there’s more positive news for the local commercial fishing industry, an independent engineering report into the jetty's structural integrity has determined vehicles between five tonnes and seven tonnes can drive onto the jetty.
“The report had yet to advise on the expected life of the jetty but that information was expected in two to three weeks, following further testing.
“Queensland Transport will work with the local commercial fishing industry reference group to determine if recently installed safety rails on the jetty need to be modified to accommodate vehicular access,” Mr Mickel said.
“The department will seek the local reference group's help in ensuring bigger vehicles do not access the jetty,” he said.
Queensland Transport chose an engineering company for the temporary lower-level landing that could provide the replacement facility in the shortest possible time, not the company offering the most economical quote.
