Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Work has started on improving a section of the Bunya Highway that will provide motorists with a safer, smoother ride on this important inland link.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the $1.5 million works would involve the widening and sealing of a 4km section north-east of Dalby.

"The Bunya Highway links Dalby to the surrounding South Burnett region and beyond,'' Mr Pitt said.

"Not only is it a vital freight link, it serves as a tourism route for attractions such as the Bunya Mountains and the region's wineries.''

Mr Pitt said all motorists would benefit from a wider, smoother surface and better visibility when accessing the highway along the upgraded section.

"Wambo Shire Council is carrying out the works to widen and seal the existing 6m-wide road and shoulders to 8.5m,” he said.

"Works are expected to be completed by the end of March next year."
