The Honourable Neil Roberts
Minister launches major SES partnership
State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers across Queensland received a boost today with the announcement of a three year partnership with insurance company NRMA.
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts used the start of SES Week (10 – 18 November) and a demonstration by volunteers in Warana St, The Gap, to announce the details of the partnership between NRMA Insurance and Queensland SES.
“This is the most significant partnership with the Queensland SES to date,” Mr Roberts said.
The agreement will see NRMA Insurance injecting additional funds into SES resources and the Storm Season awareness campaign.
Mr Roberts said it is extremely pleasing to see the outstanding work of the SES has been recognised by the corporate community.
“The partnership will provide ongoing support and raise the profile of the SES and the important work they do in the community.”
Mr Roberts said that the partnership with NRMA Insurance developed from a shared commitment to community safety.
“The NRMA Insurance partnership will provide additional funding and resources for key SES events – SES Week and the SES State rescue competition.”
Mr Roberts said these events provide a great opportunity for the community to recognise the volunteers for their tiresome work and emergency rescue skills.
“During SES Week there is a chance for the community to learn more about what the SES does and find out how to be a part of one of the most essential volunteering services in our state.”
“This generous commitment will also provide additional funds for the Storm Season campaign to ramp up community awareness for storm preparation and safety,” Mr Roberts said.
Mr Roberts said the Queensland Government strongly supported the work of the SES by committing $24.5 million over five years for training and new equipment.
NRMA Insurance State Manager Brett Robinson said the sponsorship would reinforce the insurer’s tradition of working closely with Queensland communities at risk.
“On average, one in four of our home claims in south east Queensland is related to storm damage,” he said.
“NRMA Insurance, like the SES, is genuinely committed to helping more Queenslanders better prepare for storm season.”
