Premier Welcomes Nominees From 18 Asia-Pacific Nations to Gold Coast for Asia Pacific Screen Awards

Premier Anna Bligh today welcomed to Queensland nominees in the inaugural Asia Pacific Screen Awards to be presented on the Gold Coast next Tuesday November 13.
Nominees representing 17 countries from across the Asia-Pacific region will converge on the Gold Coast this weekend to prepare for the Awards Ceremony. The Awards ceremony will be presented by Australian film legend Jack Thompson and broadcaster Indira Naidoo. CNN anchor and host of Talk Asia, Anjali Rau, will present the award in the documentary category.
Nominees across all Asia Pacific Screen Award categories will be attending.
“The Asia Pacific Screen Awards introduce a week of national and international film industry activity on the Gold Coast with the annual Screen Producers Association of Australia conference and culminates with the Inside Film Awards,” said Ms Bligh.
“With the aim of promoting and preserving the diverse cultures of the Asia-Pacific region and recognising the cinematic excellence of the region, the Asia Pacific Screen Awards also present a unique opportunity for Queensland to further develop relationships with our neighbours in across Asia-Pacific,” said the Bligh.
Nominees attending the Asia Pacific Screen Awards ceremony come from China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Lebanon, Iran, India, Iraq, Kurdistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Australia, Malaysia, The Philippines, Armenia and Sri Lanka.
Awards will be presented in the following categories:
• Best Feature Film
• Best Animated Feature Film
• Best Documentary Feature Film
• Best Children's Feature Film
• Achievement in Directing
• Best Screenplay
• Achievement in Cinematography
• Best Performance by an Actress
• Best Performance by an Actor
In addition, two special awards will be announced:
1. The FIAPF Award for outstanding achievement in film in the Asia-Pacific region.
2. The UNESCO Award for outstanding contribution to the promotion and preservation of cultural diversity through film.
The Awards are being judged this week on the Gold Coast by an International Jury of film industry luminaries led by Indian actress and humanitarian Shabana Azmi.
Two television programs about the Awards and the films of Asia-Pacific title Scene By Scene will be broadcast globally on CNN.
