The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Community broadcasters from across the country are joining forces this weekend to discuss the industry’s future at an inaugural conference being held in Brisbane.
Queensland Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Multicultural Affairs Lindy Nelson-Carr is opening the event which is being co-hosted by the National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters’ Council (NEMBC), the Australian Indigenous Communications Association (AICA) and the Ethnic Broadcasting Association of Queensland.
“This weekend’s two-day conference is an Australian-first and it’s great to welcome delegates to Queensland ahead of the upcoming 2007 Multicultural Summit,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“The program will explore the important role community broadcasters play in promoting a better understanding of Indigenous and ethnic communities,” she said.
“Discussions will also look at the future of broadcast technologies, language, culture and identity.
“This joint conference initiative is a great opportunity for community broadcasters from across the country to share their experiences, celebrate their achievements and come together under the one roof to develop strategies to take this growth media industry forward.”
On behalf of Premier Anna Bligh, Ms Nelson-Carr is also hosting a reception tonight at Parliament House to welcome Indigenous and ethic delegates to Brisbane.
