The Queensland Government has delivered on a $1.6 million promise to develop more land for Innisfail industry.
Deputy Premier, and Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, Paul Lucas, has announced an extra 2.4 hectares of land has been made available at the Innisfail Industrial Estate on Clifford Road.
“The release of more land for business in Innisfail was a key State Government commitment in the devastating wake of Cyclone Larry - and we’ve delivered.
“There are six new lots, each approximately 4,000m² in size, just waiting to make a contribution to Innisfail’s economic development.
“$1.6 million dollars has been spent on equipping 2.4 hectares with essential business infrastructure like roads, water, sewerage, phone access and electricity.
“It gives Innisfail industry room to grow as the region continues its recovery from the physical and economic damage of Larry.”
Minister for Main Roads and Local Government, and Member for Mulgrave, Warren Pitt, said the State Government has owned the land for more than three decades.
“This land was previously leased for cane farming but is now being offered to business to diversify the economy and deliver jobs for the region.
“After the trials of Larry, the release of this industrial land is a good investment in Innisfail’s future,“ Mr Pitt said.
Mr Lucas said several businesses have already expressed strong interest in buying the new lots.
“Construction and transport firms are among the companies interested in setting up shop on the expanded industrial estate.
“The Department of Infrastructure and Planning has worked closely and cooperatively with Johnstone Shire Council to fast track the release of this land.
“It’s a $1.6 million Queensland Government investment to help kick start jobs growth and deliver a brighter, more dynamic economic future for Innisfail,” Mr Lucas said.
