Bulloo Shire will receive $7.6 million towards the cost of repairing local roads damaged by flooding in January and February 2007.

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the cost of repairing damage across the shire was too great for council to carry alone.

“Road systems are vital assets in regional communities and it was essential that repair works were done as quickly as possible after being damaged by floods earlier this year,” he said.

“The cost of these restoration works was beyond council’s capacity, which is why the state and Commonwealth governments have stepped in to help with $7,647,386 in relief assistance.

“Bulloo Shire Council has also contributed $50,000 towards the repair works.”

The funding has been provided under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) program, a joint Queensland and Commonwealth initiative.

The NDRRA program enables local councils to restore damage to non-insured essential public assets as a result of a natural disaster.
