Etheridge Shire Council will receive more than $2.06 million towards the cost of repairing local roads damaged by flooding in early 2007.

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the shire’s road infrastructure suffered considerable damage during the natural disaster.

“Roads are a vital council asset, particularly for rural and remote communities, and it’s important that repairs are done as soon as possible following natural disasters,” Mr Pitt said.

“Some of the hardest hit locations in Etheridge Shire included Langlovale-Paddys Station Road, Rosella Plains Station Road, Flat Creek Station Road, Vanley Station Road and Kidston-Gilberton Station Road.”

Mr Pitt said it was important that ratepayers were not left with the repair bill for damaged council assets following natural disasters.

“These repair costs were beyond council’s capabilities, which is why the Queensland and Commonwealth governments have made $2,061,962 in funding available,” he said.

“Etheridge Shire Council has also contributed $50,000 towards the repair works.”

Mr Pitt said the funding was provided through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements program, a joint state and Commonwealth initiative.
