Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Three Southside food manufacturers will be out to woo food lovers at one of Australia’s premier food and wine shows.
Hemmant-based Brubeck’s Boutique Foods, Capalaba’s Celebrity Cakes and Coorparoo’s Olympus Cheese will take part in the Good Food and Wine Show held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from November 9-11.
Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle said the three companies would be among eight food exhibitors represented at the Queensland Government stand.
“Brubecks Boutique Foods has developed a new range of delicious gourmet pizzas for show-goers to sample,” Ms Boyle said.
“In addition to its extensive range of dips and ready-made meals, the company produces close to 3000 gourmet pizzas each week, which is rumoured to rival some of the bigger, well-known pizza franchises.”
Ms Boyle said Celebrity Cakes, a leader in quality wedding and special occasion cakes, was a long-standing local business.
“Celebrity Cakes has been producing specialty cakes, Christmas houses and sleighs, and even gingerbread biscuits for more than 35 years.
“The company has just recently made their gingerbread biscuits, which are currently sold in bakeries and IGAs nationally, available for purchase directly from the manufacturer – at factory prices.”
Boutique cheese manufacturer Olympus Cheese is another local favourite. Ms Boyle said the company produced a delicious range of award-winning haloumi, fetta and ricotta cheeses.
“Olympus Cheese has received top accolades for its Greek-style cheeses at both the state and national level,” she said.
“Just recently the company took away a swag of awards at the 2007 Dairy Industry Association of Australia Awards, including silver for its Haloumi, Fetta, Sweet Chilli Fetta and Ricotta cheeses.”
Olympus Cheese distributes its products through a variety of food service distributors, delis, restaurants, independent supermarkets and pasta manufacturers.
Ms Boyle said the Good Food and Wine Show was one of Australia’s largest consumer exhibitions for the food industry, attracting more than 300 food, beverage, kitchen appliance and cookware exhibitors.
“We’re expecting more than 14,000 food and wine lovers to pass through the doors of the Convention Centre over the weekend,” Ms Boyle said.
“Food and beverage manufacturing is big business in Queensland – worth more than $15 billion a year in revenue.
“Although Queensland has traditionally produced mainly meat products and sugar, our value-added foods are rapidly gaining a worldwide reputation for quality.
“The Good Food and Wine Show is an important forum for companies to launch new products, educate and meet customers, build brand recognition and loyalty, and increase their long-term sales and market share.”
