Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Queensland wines will be showcased at the 2007 Queensland Tourism Awards, Tourism Minister Desley Boyle said today.
Ms Boyle said wines from Jimbour Station Winery wowed guests at the awards ceremony in Brisbane last year.
“Jimbour Wines will again take centre stage at this year’s awards ceremony, serving a Vedehello and Cabernet Sauvignon,” Ms Boyle said.
“This year Jimbour Wines will also be supported by a Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc from the Granite Belt’s Symphony Hill and a Chardonnay Pinot Noir from Sirromet in Brisbane.
“Queensland’s wine industry has grown significantly over the past few years, with more than 185 licensed winemakers in the State now.
“The industry has moved out of the shadow of its more established interstate rivals and now consistently ranks amongst the best in Australia.
“The Queensland Tourism Awards will be an excellent chance to showcase the diversity of the state’s wine to more than 800 Queensland tourism representatives.”
The wines on show include:
“This year’s awards will be held in Townsville and will be the first time the event has been held outside of south-east Queensland in more than four years, making it a celebration of Queensland’s diversity.”
The Awards’ Principal Partner Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) owns and operates Gold Coast, Townsville and Mount Isa airports and last year more than 5.3 million passengers passed through the three airports.
