Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence
Minister for Police and Corrective Services Judy Spence today confirmed that it had been brought to her attention that two private investigators recently have been following DPSOA (Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act) offender, Mark Foy.
“One of the investigators has made a statement to the police, alleging possible breaches of the conditions of the offender’s order. He claims that Mr Foy was in a shopping centre on two occasions outside the hours of his supervision conditions,” Ms Spence said.
“This police statement has been provided to Queensland Corrective Services, which has investigated the allegations.
“Corrective Services interviewed Mr Foy on Thursday in relation to the allegations.
“He provided legitimate reasons for his presence in the shopping centre, including the fact he had visited Centrelink and provided employment documentation to Queensland Corrective Services. A Department of Corrective Services’ Probation and Parole office is located in the shopping centre.
“Queensland Corrective Services always thoroughly investigates any allegations regarding breaches of supervision orders.
“On the basis of the information provided to date, the Department is satisfied that the allegations have been adequately explained.
“If either of these investigators has any further information, they should provide the information immediately so it can be investigated by police and the Director-General of Queensland Corrective Services.
“We take the management of sex offenders on supervision orders very seriously, and any breaches of these orders are thoroughly investigated.
“When actual breaches are found to have occurred, we are committed to bringing these people back before the courts immediately.”
