Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel

An Australian company that has become a major force in the field of vital maritime equipment has opened its new headquarters in Brisbane.

Opening the new $7 million offices of Australian Maritime Systems at Pinkenba today, Transport, Trade, and Employment and Industrial Relations Minister John Mickel said its "extraordinary" growth in a short time would continue.

“This is a significant milestone for a company that began operations only in 2000,” Mr Mickel said.

“In just seven years the company has gone from 15 employees to more than 90 and an annual turnover in excess of $30 million.

“It has also established major contracts with both state and federal governments and now exports its technology and technological expertise to Papua New Guinea, Turkey and Cambodia with more export growth planned in the coming years."

Australian Maritime Systems' core business is in the area of maritime navigation management and aviation services, including search and rescue.

“It already has an impressive list of clients including Maritime Safety Queensland, Emergency Management Queensland, Reef Centre (Mackay), Woodside Petroleum, Sydney Ports, Virgin Blue and Alliance Airlines.

"Australian Maritime Systems' has shown the potential that innovative and enterprising Queensland companies can realise on a global scale with the support of the state government

"The decision to open a head office in Brisbane has much to do with the quality of life offered by the surrounding environment, not to mention its strategic location for the company's biggest operational commitments.

"It shows why Queensland's economy grew by 6.8% last financial year, compared with national growth of 3.3%, and the main reason for that is the strength of business investment in Queensland."
